Ans Verdijk volgt de lijnen, de curven van historische 19e-eeuwse beelden in haar studio. De kleuren, de golvingen worden geanalyseerd. Met de slijpschijf tast ze de beelden aan, vervaagd en schraapt ze contouren die belangrijk zijn aan hun karakteristiek weg. Ze vervormt de vroegere functie, sommige onderdelen worden omgekeerd, verdraaid en gespiegeld zodat er nieuwe iconische beelden ontstaan. Ze probeert de geschiedenis te kneden, te fixeren op een Ansiaanse manier zonder definitieve stelling. De vervorming van het plastiek wordt tot het einde uitgebalanceerd. Uiteindelijk is het alsof het beeld nog vele andere invalshoeken heeft om er verder over te associëren. Een nieuwe beeldenstorm is overbodig geworden, deze beelden zijn interpreteerbaar op vele manieren en meningen, ze zijn universeel.

Ans Verdijk follows the lines and curves of historical 19th-century sculptures in her studio. The colors and undulations are analyzed. With a grinding wheel, she manipulates the sculptures, blurring and scraping away contours that are important to their character. She distorts their former function; some parts are inverted, twisted, and mirrored so that new iconic images emerge. She attempts to mold history, to fix it in an Ansian way, without a definitive stance. The distortion of the plasticity is balanced to the very end. Ultimately, it is as if the sculpture has many other angles from which to associate further. A new iconoclasm has become superfluous; these sculptures are open to many interpretations and opinions; they are universal. |

So much for this piece of Ansian philosophy, a sort of iconoclasm that makes an iconoclasm needless. Just try doing that, dear visitors; you can therefore safely leave your sledgehammers, chisels, and axes at home. It will turn out to be a bit of a good time on opening night after all! |
