In 2011 huurde ik een loods van Harrie van Casteren op de Koningshoeve voor de bouw van een installatie die tweedehands schoenen identificeert, classificeert en er paren van maakt.	In 2011, I rented a shed from Harrie van Casteren at the Koningshoeve for the construction of an installation that identifies, classifies, and turns second-hand shoes into pairs.
De opdrachtgever was een groot Pools kledingrecycling bedrijf en de oplevering ervan stond gepland op eind 2015.	The client was a large Polish clothing recycling company and its completion was scheduled for late 2015.
Op de ochtend van 15 augustus 2015 brak er een hevige brand uit op dit bedrijventerrein, Hacas stond in no time in lichterlaaie, 5000 pallets met plastic tuinmeubilair vielen ten prooi aan de helse vlammen.	On the morning of August 15, 2015, a fierce fire broke out at this industrial estate, Hacas was engulfed in flames in no time, 5,000 pallets of plastic garden furniture fell prey to the hellish flames.
Ik vreesde het ergste, dat de brand zou overslaan en riep de directie van het Pools bedrijf op om alvast te gaan bidden samen met hun voltallig personeel. Op dat moment werkte daar zo’n 2200 man en dat had gewicht in de schaal dacht ik zo. Ik had al eerder ervaren met het overlijden van hun Poolse Paus Johannes Paulus II in 2005 dat alle arbeiders in de fabriek huilend achter de lopende band stonden. De vrome Polen waren weken lang van slag, de productie haperde en ik moest me even afzijdig houden werd mij gevraagd.	I feared the worst, that the fire would spread, and called upon the management of the Polish company to start praying together with their entire staff. At that moment, about 2,200 people were working there, and I thought that carried weight. I had experienced before, with the death of their Polish Pope John Paul II in 2005, that all the workers in the factory stood weeping behind the assembly line. The devout Poles were shaken for weeks, production faltered, and I was asked to step aside for a while.
De brandweer had haar uiterste best gedaan om de andere loodsen, hallen en ateliers te behoeden voor de eeuwige ondergang. Dat lukte uiteindelijk, op het einde van de dag werd het signaal, brandmeester gegeven.	The fire department had done its utmost to save the other warehouses, halls, and workshops from eternal ruin. Ultimately, it succeeded; at the end of the day, the signal "fire extinguished" was given.
Nadat het terrein werd vrijgegeven een week later, deed ik een rondje over het terrein samen met fotograaf August Swietkowiak. Wat ons onmiddellijk opviel naast de immense ravage, waren slechts vijf letters die relatief ongeschonden tussen de asresten lagen de rest van de geveltekst was gesmolten of van de aardbodem verdwenen ...	After the site was cleared a week later, I toured the grounds together with photographer August Swietkowiak. What immediately struck us, besides the immense devastation, were only five letters lying relatively undamaged among the ash; the rest of the facade text had melted or vanished from the face of the earth ...
