It was high time. For thirty years, inventor/artist Guus Voermans and photographer August Swietkowiak have inspired each other to the most turbulent projects and yet this is the first time that they show the results of this close collaboration. | Achter de ramen van het museum treft u een verzameling bewegende beelden aan, vernuftig samengesteld uit alledaagse blinkende attributen, gevonden op kringloop, container of sloop. Alles beweegt als vanzelf, in perfecte balans gebracht met stangetjes en scharnieren. Alsof ze altijd zó hebben bestaan, geboren als schitterde vogels of bewegende torso’s. |
Behind the windows of the museum you will find a collection of moving images, cleverly composed of everyday shiny attributes, found at thrift shops, containers or demolition. Everything moves as if by itself, brought into perfect balance with rods and hinges. As if they have always existed like that, born as glittering birds or moving torsos. |
| Daarnaast ziet u magistrale foto’s die een blik werpen op projecten van dit doldrieste duo, of dat nu het spotten van ufo’s of een sorteermachine van tweedehands schoenen is. Maar ook het voortvloeisel van het stoeien met een gigantische graafmachine, een afgedankte vleugel, twee kliko’s plus een prettig gestoorde popartiest in het Wilhelminakanaal. Alsof dat niet genoeg is. |

| Augustinus (Guus) Henricus Adrianus Voermans (Boxtel 1949) volgde aan de mts de richting werktuigbouwkunde en werkte daarna in het natuurkundig laboratorium van Philips. Vervolgens ging hij naar de Academie voor Beeldende Vorming, had hij een lijstenfabriek, werkte hij voor een machinefabriek en realiseerde hij mede de Droomvlucht in de Efteling. Vanaf het begin van de jaren negentig maakt Voermans in Tilburg kunstwerken en installaties. Deze lampen, meubels, robotten en bewegende objecten stelt hij samen uit afgedankte gebruiksvoorwerpen en andere materialen. In 1995 baarde hij opzien met het meterslange object NOTZ, dat lange tijd voor het Duvelhok stond. Ander opvallende creaties waren de installatie Illumineus (met Geurt Grosveld en August Swietkowiak; 1998) en Alaska (met Geurt Grosveld; 1999) en de stalen kraai Izi-bird (1999). Dit object werd bij het FAXX-gebouw geplaatst en het kraste als een voorbijganger een speciaal telefoonnummer draaide. Voermans combineert zijn technische vindingrijkheid met een groot beeldend vermogen. Dit talent stelt hij ook beschikbaar aan schoolprojecten, cultuurmanifestaties en theatrale voorstellingen. Tot die laatste categorie behoort het project Watertunnels, dat hij met onder anderen Peter Hofland en Rudi Klumpkens realiseerde in de Muzentuin (2002). In 2007 presenteerde hij zijn installatie Doe geen moeite bak een ei. Voermans won internationale prijzen en exposeerde in binnen- en buitenland. In 2002 werd hij geportretteerd in het tv-programma De Stoel van Rik Felderhof. |
Augustinus (Guus) Henricus Adrianus Voermans (Boxtel 1949) studied mechanical engineering at the MTS and then worked in the physics laboratory of Philips. He then went to the Academy for Visual Arts, had a frame factory, worked for a machine factory and helped realise the Droomvlucht in the Efteling. From the early nineties, Voermans has been making artworks and installations in Tilburg. He assembles these lamps, furniture, robots and moving objects from discarded utensils and other materials. In 1995, he caused a sensation with the metres-long object NOTZ, which stood in front of the Duvelhok for a long time. Other striking creations were the installation Illumineus (with Geurt Grosveld and August Swietkowiak; 1998) and Alaska (with Geurt Grosveld; 1999) and the steel crow Izi-bird (1999). This object was placed at the FAXX building and it scratched when a passer-by dialed a special telephone number. Voermans combines his technical ingenuity with a great visual ability. He also makes this talent available to school projects, cultural manifestations and theatrical performances. The Watertunnels project, which he realised with Peter Hofland and Rudi Klumpkens in the Muzentuin (2002), belongs to the latter category. In 2007 he presented his installation Doe geen moeite bak een ei. Voermans has won international prizes and has exhibited at home and abroad. In 2002 he was portrayed in the TV programme De Stoel van Rik Felderhof. |
