„Niet op zoek gaan maar vinden. Thuiskomen met onverwachte ontdekkingen of soms hoef je niet eens je huis uit te gaan, want je vindt het daar waar je bent. Het maakt het wel lastig als je gevraagd wordt om van te voren iets te vertellen over wat je wil laten zien in de komende tentoonstelling. Bij de laatste tentoonstelling vorige maand kwam drie dagen voor de opening door een technisch probleem een fantastisch toepasselijk beeld tevoorschijn. En bij het inrichten ontdekte ik dat dit nieuwe beeld nog meer in zich had waarmee gespeeld kan worden. Wat elke dag kon groeien door er iets toe te voegen.
Zo hoop ik ook nu dat ik tot op het laatste moment en daarna verrast kan gaan worden. Voor mij gaat het niet over het perfecte plaatje, maar wat fotografie is en kan. En dan ook wat het mij kan vertellen. Ik ben geen verteller die mijn verhaal met foto’s illustreert. De foto’s die ik maak moeten mij hun verhaal vertellen. En natuurlijk gaat het ook over mij. Ik ben er bij geweest.”

"Not searching, but finding. Coming home with unexpected discoveries, or sometimes you don't even have to leave the house, because you find it right where you are. It does make it difficult when you're asked to say something in advance about what you want to show in the upcoming exhibition. At the last exhibition last month, a fantastically fitting image emerged three days before the opening due to a technical problem. And while setting it up, I discovered that this new image had even more potential to play with. Something that could grow every day by adding something to it. So now, too, I hope to be surprised right up to the very last moment and beyond. For me, it's not about the perfect picture, but about what photography is and can do. And also what it can tell me. I'm not a storyteller who illustrates my story with photos. The photos I take have to tell me their story. And of course, it's also about me. I was there." |
